HALF DAY SEMINAR ON “Scale-up of batch process and flow chemistry in batch reactors” organized on 19 July 2019
The Department of Chemical Engineering and Indian Institute of Chemical Engineering (IIChE) Students’ Chapter organized a half day seminar on “Scale-up of batch process and flow chemistry in batch reactors” on 19th July, 2019 in the Department Seminar Hall. The guest of honour was Mr. Chetan Shende, Senior Scientist, Dr. Reddy’s Institute of Life Sciences, Hyderabad. In his talk, Mr. Shende explained the design scales – lab scale, pilot plant scale and commercial scale. He also explained the necessity to scale-up the plant. In connection to the plant scale-up Mr. Shende further emphasized on batch and continuous processes. The pharmaceutical companies are usually run on batch processes and there is a huge demand of Chemical Engineers in pharmaceutical sector. In designing the process he has given lot of illustrations for selection of material for design and fabrication work. The knowledge of MOC (material of construction) is important in food and pharmaceutical sectors because of the need of high purity. Mr. Shende encouraged the students to work in batch processes, especially for third and final year students on pharmaceutical projects.

Indo-German Conference On “Water Management In India” On 29 May 2017:
AISSMS organized a one day Indo-German Conference on Water Management in India on May 29, 2017. The main objective of the conference was to give wide publicity to water management course run by AISSMS jointly with VESBE Germany. This conference discussed the issues related with water management in India. At present, India is facing major challenges in terms of availability of pure water, its equitable distribution to the masses, scientific management of wastewater and its reuse possibilities to reduce the increasing demand for potable water. About 80% of water is used for the ‘non-drinking’ purpose, which is resulting in wastewater generation. Little quantity of waste water is recycled and reused. However, recycle and reuse has not received much attention because of the lack of viable models, technology support and lack of sufficient trained and skilled manpower. In view of these, the conference on water management in India was organized by AISSMS’s Department of Chemical Engineering, Department of Civil Engineering and ITI, Boribhadak Pune at Sheraton Grand, Pune.
On the Dias: Chief guest Dr. Devanand Shinde, Vice-Chancellor, Shivaji University, Kolhapur, Shri Malojiraje Chhatrapati Hon. Secretary All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society, Mr. Frank Hoffmann, Regional Director, IGCC, Pune, Dr. Anant Sardeshmukh, Director General, MCCIA, Pune, Mr. Zaheer Ahmed, University of Stuttgart, Germany, Shri Suresh Shinde Honorary Joint Secretary All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society, Dr D S Bormane (Principal of AISSMS COE) and Mr Walunj (Vice-Principal, ITI, Boribhadak, Pune) were present for the innuagral function of one day Indo-German Conference on Water Management in India on May 29, 2017.
