  • Dr. D S Bormane addressed the audiences and briefly stated the legacy of Society which is in its Centennial and about the Institute, which is now celebrating its silver jubilee year. He brought to the notice of participants the achievements of the Institute. He further made aware about the various activities being undertaken under Silver Jubilee technical celebrations.He stated the importance of conducting these kinds of Seminars. He wished all the best to organizing team and assured participants to have a great knowledge sharing in the two days.
  • Mr. Suresh Pratap Shinde, who himself is an Industrialist asserted the prominence of the need of understanding the recent trends in New Product Development as the era is demanding fast changing in products and addition of more features with high economy and efficiency of manufacturing.
  • Mr. R M Shringarpure briefly apprised the gathering with the importance of New Product Development.
  • Dr. K N Nandurkar greeted the audiences and stated his views on aptness of the topic of Seminar.
  • Dr. S H Wankhade briefed about the topic i.e. New Product Development and emphasized the need to listen Voice of Products also because in the compelling market demands acting merely on Voice of Customer may not be enough. He then mentioned the ensuing sessions during 2-day Seminar. He offered vote of thanks and declared with the permission of chair that the Inauguration function is over.

Topic: Challenges for New Product Development

He shared the challenges which are posed in front of Industries and Service Sector to offer the products to the customers so that they get enthralled. The need to innovate and invent is very high as the technology change is occurring at a jet speed.

Topic: Creativity, Innovation and Invention for New Product Development

He highlighted the basic attributes required for the New Product Development as Creativity, Innovation and Invention. During his session he deliberated on it through various examples and engaged audiences in interactions.

Topic: Recent Trends in Innovation Management

He elucidated the concepts of patenting through a story of a small boy and weaved the patent terminologies viz. Applicant, Application for a patent, Application date Claim(s), Expiry date, First to file, First to invent, Grant date, Infringement, Inventive step, Novelty, Patentability, Prior art etc. in it and made audience understand them in a simple manner.

Topic: Role of New Product Development in Business Augmentation

He utilized his new product development experience and disseminated the requirements and challenges in a structured manner with the focus of business augmentation. He shared the trends and product life cycle with various examples.

Topic: New Product Development in Experience Economy

He shared his vast knowledge and introduced to the fact that the future economic growth lies in the value of experiences and transformations, as the goods and services are no longer enough. We are on the threshold of a new economic era in which all businesses must orchestrate memorable events for their customers. He also briefed about Design Thinking, which is a technique that helps in holistic thinking and to focus on what is called as ‘Human centric Design’ that is related to the moment, creates meaning and concerns with human emotions.

Topic: 7 Habits of Highly Successful Inventors

He shared his view that to be Inventor, an individual should inhibit 7 basic habits. These habits if practiced well can lead a success path towards breakthrough Invention. These habits are understanding the product, service or system to a functional level; resolving contradiction; utilizing available resources; thinking in ideality; assimilating technology trends; usage of technological effects and thinking in space and time. The relevant example sharing made the session very comprehensible.

Topic: A Novel Light Source – From Idea to Prototype

A scientist in a leading lab toured the audience through the journey of developing a product from a raw idea. She took several examples viz. Ceiling lights, restricted emanation lights on screen, transparent showcase, skylights, privacy glass and limitation of video chatting through the mobile phones. She elaborated on achieving eye contact through video chatting from just an idea and enlightened the participants through the criticalities of solving all technical problems. She made the audience participate in the systematic problem solving through her immense knowledge and persuasive presentation skills.

Deputy General Manager, Gasoline Engines, Engg Research Centre, Tata Motors Ltd.

Topic: New Engine Development

He cruised the audiences though the expedition of development of new engine and how these engines maneuvered the fleet of Zest, Tiago, Tigor, Hexa to a great success in market. He meticulously explained the challenges the automobile sector is facing in view of gasoline engines. He also elaborated on the transformation towards electric vehicles.

Head, Korean Business & Interim Product Development, ARaymond Fasteners India Pvt Ltd, Chakan, Pune

Topic: Product Development: A case study on Air Conditioners

He transpired his knowledge on Air Conditioners; Indian, Korean and International business experience in mesmerizing the audience with many testing, environmental laws and other criticalities of new product launching. He accentuated the effect on products as per the norms of different countries.

Dr. D S Bormanefelicitated the guests by offering basil sapling and memento of college. In his speech he appreciated the coordinating teams’ efforts for successful completion of all sessions. He also appreciated the selection of variety of topics and coveted speakers who delivered to the expectation of audiences. He also congratulated and valued the attendance of audiences throughout the sessions.

Mr. P V Narayan praised the efforts of Institute and organizers for selecting apposite topic which is most sought after in this technological scenario. He also appreciated the Institutes efforts in providing opportunities to students to learn professional training programs and initiative of students and Faculty members in research and filing patents.

 Mr. Ajay Wadekar briefed on the new process development in Mercedes-Benz. He also brought the attention of gathering by giving subtle examples of new innovative products in market and new ways of warehousing, distribution and retailing. He also appreciated the conduction of program.

Certificate Distribution: All the participants were awarded certificate of attendance through the dignitaries.
