SAE India & Altair Hyperworks Workshop
(3-5th January 2014)
The initiative of conducting the workshop in the very premises of our college i.e. AISSMS, COE, Pune was taken by Prof.A.V.Waghmare (Faculty Advisor). The contribution of the collegiate club in the organization and arrangement of the event was commendable.
The first day of the event was started with the registration of the participants by our volunteers. The participants from different colleges as well as different places of the country came to take part. The participants were given a book, pen & SAE India Workshop ID. The total participants registered on the first day were 74.
The dice on the first day was mesmerized by the presence by Dr. S.P.Danao (Principal, AISSMS), Prof. S.V.Chaitanya (HOD, Mechanical Dept), Prof. A.V. Waghmare (Cordinator), Mr.Dinesh B (Manager Project, SAE India),Mr. Apoorva Bapat (Altair Hyperworks)

Volunteers then welcomed dignitaries on the dice with a bouquet. Mr. Dinesh B also handed over a memento from SAE India on behalf of the college to Prof.A.V.Waghmare towards the contribution of the department to SUPRA SAE INDIA 2014.
Mr.Dinesh B then described in brief about the schedule of the next 3 days to the participants.
Dr.S.P.Danao welcomed all the participants on behalf of the college and appereciated the atmost gratitude to SAE India for conducting the event in our college.
The event was taken over by Mr. Apoorva Bapat with the Signing off of all the dignatries on the dice.

BAJA SAEINDIA 2013 COMPETITION
Every year the Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE India) organizes national level students competition for the design, fabrication and testing of all terrain vehicle (ATV). The first competition was organized in 2007. This year the BAJA SAE India 2013 competition was jointly organized with National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project (NATRiP) at Pithampur MP on 14-17 February 2013. The event was co-sponsored by leading automotive manufacturing companies like Mahindra and Mahindra, Briggs and Stratton Cummins India, GM & Anand Group.
The objective of the competition is to provide opportunities to engineering students to showcase their talents in design, manufacture and testing of all terrain vehicle, simulating the real world product development process. Such events are organized in US, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil and South Korea. The ATV should comply with the stringent norms stipulated in the Rule Book. It should be capable of enduring the 4km track consisting of mud, sludge, ditches, steep slopes, etc for four grueling hours after passing various Static and Dynamic tests. In short it is arduous test of man and machine.
The team consisted of 25undergraduate students from diverse branches whose only passion was to make the vehicle headed by the Captain Akshay Tilekar and Oshan Kothadiya was the driver for the team. The team bagged sponsorships from esteemed companies like Henkel Adhesives, Prto D , Shunya Enterprises etc.
This year 120 teams of engineering colleges from all over India participated in the BAJA SAE India competition. The competition consisted of static events such as design, cost and marketing presentations and evaluations. The dynamic events included acceleration, maneuverability, braking and hill climb. The highlight of the event was a four hour endurance test which saw the teams racing their vehicles on step and rough terrain.
The team excelled in Static events. The team passed all its safety & scrutiny test in one go. The team was well applauded for its compact construction, Build quality & the concept of replacement of welded joints by using adhesives. The cost report was appreciated for its detailed documentation of all the resources utilized. Marketing proposal was the prime highlight of the static event for the team. The marketing team came up with using ‘Prezi’ software compared to conventional MS office. The team earned maximum points for this new idea. Overall the team performed consistent maintain g its reputation at the national level.
The team recoded time of 7.5 sec in acceleration test thus starting 22nd on the grid for the endurance race. Hill climb test timing recorded was 21 sec. However the team couldn’t compete in the maneuverability test owing to problem of clutch overheating. The team started 22nd on the grid for endurance run. But during the 8th lap of the race the car had a mishap at hill 1 when other car dangerously tried to overtake. Owing to the collision the front right ball joint shread and we lost precious 45 min of the race. The position of the car was 4th when the mishap occurred. Hence the team couldn’t complete the endurance race. Settling for the overall 35th position. The final year members of the team participated for the HR rounds held at event.
Overall the event was a grand success as it provided the team with a great platform to showcase their dexterity in this competition.

SAEINDIA COLLEGIATE CLUB

SAEINDIA (Society of Automotive Engineers) is India’s leading resource for mobility technology. As an individual member driven society of mobility practitioners the ownership of SAEINDIA wrests with its members who are Individuals from the mobility community, which includes Engineers Executives from Industry, Government Officials, Academics and Students.
SAEINDIA is an affiliate society of SAE International registered in India as an Indian nonprofit engineering and scientific society dedicated to the advancement of mobility industry in India. SAEINDIA has over 13000 student members in more than 120 collegiate clubs located all over India.
The SAE Collegiate Club is the frontrunner in this regard. It is administered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. It was founded in the year 2000 and has since consistently organized an assortment of diverse activities which have immensely benefited its members. It comprises of a majority of students from Mechanical & Production Engineering and also from Electrical, Electronics, and Computer Engineering.

Activies of the year 2008-2009
1) A Guest Lecture was delivered by Mr. Shivkumar Swamy,Manager-Learning and Development, HR SKF India Limited,Pune on ‘Bearings and its Application in Automobile Components’ on 7th August 2008.It was a highly informative and interesting presentation on bearings. It greatly helped the students to cler their doubts and get all info about the topic. It was an interactive session in which around 50 members took part.
2) Industry visit to R Engineering Works Pvt Ltd,Chibli on 4th October 2008.
3) Model Making Competition was organized on 13th of September 2008 by the club to stimulate the technical thinking in students. Eighty four students from all branches studying in the year FE to BE participated enthusiastically to make a moving model of an automobile according to the given problem statement. The competition was a grand success and won accolades from the faculty as well as the participants.

4) Student lecture and presentation titled “The Art of Paper presentation’ by Mr.Pranav Patil was organized on 19th September 2008 to make the members aware of how to present a technical paper and various other presentation skills. Members attended it with zeal and interacted with Mr.Patil (Secretary SAE Club 08-09) to learn more about the same.
5) Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT) was organized by ARAI(Automotive Research Association of India) from 21-23 January 2009.SAE student members participated in the EXPO to get a in depth info about the emerging trends in the Automotive Industry around the world. It was a great confluence of members of industry and academia.
6) SAE Social Programme-It is organized every year at ARAI, Pune where members across the SAE India Western Section are invited. The cultural programme this year had a Rock theme and the performances entertained one and all. The programme ended with a lavish dinner in the lawns of ARAI. It provides an opportunity for the members to make new acquaintances and thus sharing knowledge among themselves.

7) KEDARESH DESHPANDE HAS RECEIVED SAEINDIA (WI) SECTION BEST STUDENT AWARD WITH CASH PRIZE RS. 4000/- ON 2ND OCTOBER 2008 IN THE SOCIAL PROGRAMME HELD AT ARAI.

The event was co-sponsored by leading automotive manufacturing companies like Mahindra and Mahindra, Lombardini, FIAT, BOSCH.
The objective of the competition is to provide opportunities to engineering students to showcase their talents in design, manufacture and testing of all terrain vehicle, simulating the real world product development process. Such events are organized in US, South Africa, Mexico, Brazil and South Korea.
This year 58 teams of engineering colleges from all over India participated in the BAJA SAE India competition. The competition consisted of static events such as design, cost and marketing presentations and evaluations. The dynamic events included acceleration, maneuverability, braking and hill climb. The highlight of the event was a two hour endurance test which saw the teams racing their vehicles on step and rough terrain.
At the end of the event the national list of award winners was declared by the organizers (see table). The teams from Pune bagged 5 out of the top 10 ten rankings. The team RESONANCE from AISSMS College of Engineering, Pune topped the list of Pune teams and bagged the overall third prize at national level; the first and second being from Sant Longowal institute of Engineering. & Technology and Punjab Engineering College. The award of Rs 5 lack went to Sant Longowal institute of Engineering. & Technology, Rs. 3 lack to Punjab Engineering College and Rs. 2 lack to AISSMS College of Engineering Pune.
The awards were also given under individual category. Teams from IIT Bombay (1.0 lack) and College of Engineering Pune (0.5 lack) won the first and second prizes respectively in the Engineering Design category. The team from Modern College of Engineering (0.5 lack) won the second prize in the Technology Innovation category while Sinhagad Academy of Engineering (1.0 lack) won the second prize in the Durability category. The team from Smt. Kashibai Navale College of Engineering (0.5 lack) came second in the Maximum Speed category.

AISSMS’CoE triumphs at the BAJA SAE INDIA 2010

The annual BAJA SAE INDIA 2010 was concluded here today with excitement and exhilaration at full throttle.AISSMS’ CoE, Pune won the 2nd prize in the Acceleration and Hill Climb event in this all India level competition.
BAJA SAE INDIA 2010 is a competition in which a college team of undergraduate students conceptualize, model, simulate, fabricate, test and market a single seat All Terrain Vehicle(ATV).It was held at NATRAX(National Automobile Test Tracks) of NATRiP (National Automotive Testing and R&D Infrastructure Project) at Pithampur near Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The ATV should comply with the stringent norms stipulated in the Rule Book. It should be capable of enduring the 4km track consisting of mud, sludge, ditches, steep slopes, etc for three grueling hours after passing various Static and Dynamic tests. In short it is arduous test of man and machine.
Team No 03 Resonance Racing, from AISSMS’CoE, Pune accepted the challenge to compete in this prestigious event with full gusto. The team consisted of 23 undergraduate students from diverse branches whose only passion was to make the vehicle headed by the Captain and Driver Mr.Anand Iyer. It was the only team to bag sponsorship from the esteemed companies like FIAT, TATA MOTORS etc.
The vehicle had a robust, durable, reliable, aesthetic and ergonomic design capable of cruising through all the hindrances on the track. It was the only vehicle with a TATA NANO transmission which imparted one of the highest power and torque to the wheels. All these factors helped the team win the Runners up prize of Rs.50000 each for the Acceleration and Hill climb event.
It was one of the favorites to win the competition but unfortunately couldn’t complete the final race as another vehicle crashed into its real drive axle. Still the team managed to bag the Overall 12th place with 677 points.
Overall the event was a grand success as it provided the team with a great platform to showcase their dexterity in this competition.

|Bagged the first position at the National level in the 1st Maruti Suzuki Supra SAE 2011 competition

Supra SAE 2011 was a competition organised by Maruti Suzuki and SAE India. The competition, being held for the first time in India, required students to design, validate, fabricate and finally, race a fully functioning, open wheel, open cockpit, formula style car around the Madras Motorsports Race Track (MMRT) at Chennai.
The competition kicked off with the registrations starting in April 2010. The preliminary design report was submitted in August 2010. All teams that had registered were asked to go through a screening process in September 2010, held at the ANSYS office, Pune. 46 teams were shortlisted on the basis of the design report and a presentation by an expert panel of judges. The selected teams were then supplied with a 800 CC Maruti engine and gearbox (sponsored by Maruti Suzuki). The design of the vehicle was governed by a rule book, which covered virtually all aspects with a special emphasis on safety.
Several months were spent in designing the various systems like the chassis, suspension, brakes etc. All of the designs were further validated with calculations and analysis using software’s like ANSYS. The designs were then changed according to the requirements.

The fabrication of the entire vehicle took 3 months. A lot of difficulties were faced in the manufacturing of the car. The design had to be refined further considering the limited means of fabrication at our disposal. The overall cost was also an important aspect during fabrication, and we had to work very hard to keep the expenses in check. Though short of money, we never compromised on the quality of components used, and our robust engineering and durability was our biggest asset. However, a compromise had to be reached when it came to the aesthetics, and our body was fabricated using steel sheets as opposed to FRP or carbon fibre that several other teams were using.

SUPRA SAEINDIA 2011
The event provides a real world engineering challenge for the SAEINDIA Student members that reflect the steps involved in the entire process from design and engineering to production to marketing and endurance. The SUPRA SAEINDIA 2011 is a competition which presents the Under Graduate & Post Graduate Engineering Students the task of designing, modelling and fabricating a formula type racing car. The concept behind SUPRA SAEINDIA 2011 is that a fictional manufacturing company has contacted a design team to develop a small Formula style race car. The prototype is to be evaluated for its potential as a racing car. The target marketing group for the race car is the non-professional weekend autocross racer. Each team designs and produces a prototype based on well laid down rules & regulations. The project fuels the exuberance of the youth by providing teams a platform to test their mettle, giving them a pragmatic exposure to real world challenges as faced in the industry. Students realize their talent through such an experience, making them proven candidates for the future as technocrats, entrepreneurs, designers, innovators and leaders.
This helps the objective of bringing out student talent to serve the nation for the years to come, in fulfilment of the Automotive Mission Plan (AMP2016) a dream to make India an International Automotive Hub.
